Caption: Family of US astronomer George Ellery Hale (1868-1938). Evlina Hale (nee Conklin, born 1868, left) was Hale's wife. With her here are their two children: William Ellery Hale (born 1901) and Margaret Hale (born 1897). Hale founded a number of observatories, including Yerkes and Mount Wilson, and edited the 'Astrophysical Journal' from 1895. He was awarded the Copley Medal of the Royal Society in 1932. The Hale Telescope, the Hale Cycle of solar activity, an asteroid, and craters on the Moon and Mars are named after him. This photograph was published in 'Explorer of the Universe: A Biography of George Ellery Hale'.Restrictions:
