Caption: Founding Caltech scientists. Taken in 1919, this photograph shows, from left to right: US chemist Arthur Amos Noyes (1866-1936), US astronomer George Ellery Hale (1868-1938) and US physicist Robert Andrews Millikan (1868-1953). They are at the Norman Bridge Physics Laboratory, at soon-to-be named California Institute of Technology (Caltech), California, USA. At the time, Caltech was known as the Throop College of Technology, but became Caltech in 1921. It was under the leadership of the three men here, that Caltech developed during the 1920s into one of the world's major research and educational institutions.Restrictions:
