Caption: Occhialini and Blackett, particle physicists. At left is Italian physicist Giuseppe Paolo Stanislao Occhialini (1907-1993). At right is British physicist Patrick Maynard Stuart Blackett (1897-1974). Occhialini and Blackett worked together in the 1930s at the Cavendish Laboratory at Cambridge University, England. It was here in 1932, under the leadership of Blackett, that a team that included Occhialini confirmed the existence of the positron using cloud chambers. Blackett received the 1948 Nobel Prize in Physics for his cloud chamber work. This photograph is from the Universita 'la Sapienza', Rome, Italy.Restrictions:
