Caption: Sinai and Gollub, chaos theoreticians. At left is Russian-US mathematician Yakov Grigorevich Sinai (born 1935), who received the Wolf Prize in Mathematics in 1997. At right is US mathematical physicist Jerry P. Gollub (born 1944). Photographed in July 1989 at the 1st Soviet-American Chaos Conference, at the National Academy of Sciences in Woods Hole, Massachusetts, USA. This was the first in a series of five conferences, held alternately from 1989-1993 in the USA and the former USSR. The conferences were sponsored by the American Institute of Physics, and brought together leading researchers in chaos theory.Restrictions:
