From left to right: Soviet physicist Igor Yevgenyevich Tamm (1895-1971), British-US physicist Freeman John Dyson (born 1923), German-British physicist Rudolf Ernst Peierls (1907-1995), and Soviet physicist Vitaly Lazarevich Ginzburg (1916-2009). All four worked on nuclear engineering during their careers. Tamm made early proposals for nuclear fusion, Dyson worked on the Orion Project (nuclear pulse propulsion of spacecraft), Peierls worked on the atom bomb during World War II, and Ginzberg worked on the Soviet hydrogen bomb.
