Caption: Arthur Strong Wightman (born 1922), US physicist and mathematician. Wightman studied at Princeton under leading US theoretical physicist John Archibald Wheeler, and became a professor at Princeton, where he is (as of 2011) a professor emeritus. His major work has been in quantum field theory (QFT), and his Wightman axioms are an attempt at a mathematically rigorous description of QFT. These theories are used in many areas of physics, including particle physics, superconductivity, and condensed matter physics. Wightman received the Henri Poincare Prize of the International Association of Mathematical Physics in 1997.Restrictions:
