Caption: Yukawa and Rabi, Nobel physicists. At left is Japanese physicist Hideki Yukawa (1907-1981). At right is Polish-US physicist Isidor Isaac Rabi (1898-1988). Yukawa was awarded the 1949 Nobel Prize in Physics for his 1935 theory predicting the existence of particles called mesons. Rabi was awarded the 1944 Nobel Prize in Physics for discovering the principles of nuclear magnetic resonance. This photograph was taken at Columbia University, USA, where Rabi spent nearly all his career from 1930 onwards, and where Yukawa became a professor in 1949. Rabi was chair of Columbia's physics department from 1945 to 1949.Restrictions:
