Caption: Color-enhanced scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of bacteria which live on human feet. Such bacteria metabolize the sweat and other substances on the skin. Isovaleric acid, as one of the metabolites, has a pungent odor which gives such feet their characteristic smelly odor. The prevalent bacteria are corynebacteria (rods) and cocci (micrococci). Image width: 13.5 um. Magnification: 7,410x if the image is printed 10 cm wide.
