Caption: Lake Eyre, Australia, June 3rd 2010. Satellite image showing Lake Eyre in the central Australian desert as the water began to recede after the usually dry salt lake was flooded due to heavy rainfall in Queensland in January 2010. The waters peaked in mid May. Lake Eyre, which is 15 metres below sea level, has an area of 9,500 square kilometres, but drains a much larger area of 1.2 million square kilometres. Image taken by the SPOT 5 satellite.
