Caption: GLONASS satellite launch. Night-time launch of a Proton-M carrier rocket with a DM upper stage containing a cluster of 3 GLONASS-M satellites. Russia's Global Navigation Satellite System (GLONASS) achieved global coverage in 1991, but fell into disrepair after the collapse of the Soviet Union. As of 2010, upgrades and new satellites have achieved coverage over the whole of Russia once more. This launch took place at Baikonur Cosmodrome, in Kazakhstan, on 2 March 2010.
