Caption: Nano-coating plasma technology. Engineer and a holder loaded with drill bits, at the opening of a nano-coating facility. This holder will be placed in a vacuum chamber and the drill bits coated with a nano-designed material to increase their durability. This technology was invented in the USSR in the 1970s, and then sold to Western companies. The technology has only recently returned to Russia. This new factory, operated by Swiss company Oerlikon, is located in Elektrostal, near Moscow, Russia. Photographed at the opening of the factory on 29 March 2010.
