Caption: Dmitri Mendeleyev, Lord Cheney and Friedrich Blumbach photographed on the Eiffel Tower in 1895. Dmitri Ivanovich Mendeleyev (1834-1907) was a Russian chemist who made the first periodic table of the elements. He arranged the known elements by their properties, such as mass and reactivity, and where gaps appeared in the pattern he predicted the properties of then-unknown elements.
