Caption: Shuttle training aircraft. The OK-GLI test vehicle seen at an airshow in Moscow in 1999. The OK-GLI was used to train pilots to fly the Soviet 'Buran' space shuttle. The test vehicle was an aerodynamic analogue of the Buran vehicle, apart from the four AL-31 jet engines fitted at the rear. This meant that the vehicle could take off and fly under its own power. The US Space Shuttle used a carrier aircraft to take it aloft for atmospheric flight tests. The OK-GLI flew 25 times before the Buran programme was cancelled. Thereafter it was donated to the Speyer Technical Museum, Germany.
