Caption: Preservation of sea shore geology. View across a strip of plants and fences strung together to stabilise sand dunes. These dunes are on the Curonian Spit, a narrow strip of land that separates the Curonian Lagoon from the Baltic Sea and is a part of the coast of Lithuania and the Kaliningrad Oblast of Russia. Essentially a 98-kilometre long sand bar, the Curonian Spit is vulnerable to erosion from wind and sea and needs stabilising to protect it.
