Caption: Turbine rotor installation. This low-pressure steam turbine is being installed in a power station. The pressure from steam passing through the turbine causes the turbine to rotate. Combined with magnets, this rotation generates electricity. Weighing 75 tons, this turbine rotor is part of the new power unit at TGK-1's Southern Thermal Power Station, St Petersburg, Russia. TGK-1 (also called TGC-1) is a Russian power generating company. Photographed in 2010.
