Caption: Hydroelectric dam construction. Crowds along the banks of a river watching the building of a dam for a hydroelectric power station. This is an early stage in the construction of the Sayano-Shushenskaya Dam, across the Yenisei River, in the far south of Russia's Krasnoiarsk region, near Mongolia. This dam was constructed between 1961 and 1978, reaching a height of 246 metres, with a base width of 105 metres. The associated hydroelectric power station is, as of 2009, the largest in Russia and the sixth-largest in the world. Photographed on 11 October 1975.
