Caption: Polynesian artefacts. Engraving of several artefacts seen by explorers in Tahiti. At left is an adze, next to which are several views of the cutting head. At bottom are needles used for tattooing, and at right a hammer used to tap the needles to break the skin. This plate was published in An account of the voyages undertaken by the order of His present Majesty : for making discoveries in the Southern Hemisphere, by John Hawkesworth, printed at London in 1773.
