Caption: Egyptian galleon. Engraved illustration showing an Egyptian galleon at sea. On the deck can be seen two long stone obelisks. The ship has both sails and oars. The oars were used in still air or for manoeuvrability in confined spaces. This illustration comes from Obeliscus pamphilius by Athanasius Kircher, printed at Rome in 1650.
