Caption: Mouldy tomato. Macrophotograph of a rotten tomato. The red surface is seen covered in Penicillium sp. mould. The white strands of fungus, called hyphae, make up the mycelium which obtains nutrients for the sporangia. The sporangia produce spores (grey-green) ready to become air- borne and colonise more organic matter such as food. Magnification: x1.1 at 35mm size.
