Caption: Coral spot fungus. Coral spot fungus (Nectria cinnabarina) growing on a branch. While this fungus is normally saprophytic, feeding on decaying material, it can also grow parasitically on healthy twigs and branches. There are two types of spore-bearing bodies, with one type, the perithecial stroma (red), developing around the base of the other, the conidial stroma (white).
