Caption: Diseased hibiscus. Illustration of a diseased hib- iscus shrub. Infestations are seen as magnified circles. At top left, aphids are distorting the growth of a new flower bud. At upper left, a red spider mite is seen causing yellow mottled leaves with a fine webbing on the underside. Mealy bugs are highlighted at centre left, these cottony growths feed on sap and cause wilting. At upper right, whiteflies are seen on a leaf, these moth- like insects lay eggs on the undersides of leaves. At centre right, dark oval scales are seen attached to a stem. Yellow leaves at lower right are caused by insufficient light while frost will result in black wilted leaves, seen at lower left.
