Caption: Southern green stinkbug. Macrophotograph of a southern green stinkbug (Nezara viridula) nymph resting on a soybean (Glycine max) pod. This insect is an important pest of several crops, including soybean, as seen here. Adults and nymphs pierce the surface of the bean pod and feed on the plant fluids. Large aggregations of this pest can cause considerable damage to plants, reducing the quality of beans produced. If the bean pod is small when first attacked, it may not develop at all. Photographed in Mississippi, USA. Magnification unknown.
