Caption: Soybean stem borer larva. Macrophotograph of a soybean stem borer (Dectes texanus texanus) larva, inside a soybean (Glycine max) stem. This beetle larva is a pest of several plants, including the soybean, as seen here. After it hatches, the larva tunnels through the stem of the host plant, feeding on the tissues as it goes. Only one larva matures in each stem; competitors are cannibalised. Magnification unknown.
