Caption: Cotton aphids. Macrophotograph of cotton or melon aphids (Aphis gossypium) feeding on the lower surface of a cotton (Gossypium sp. ) leaf. These aphids are pests throughout most of the world, infesting cotton and many other plants. Adults and nymphs congregate on the lower surface of the host's leaves (as seen here) and extract the plant sap. Heavily infested plants suffer serious damage and may even die. Photographed in California, USA. Magnification unknown.
