Caption: Blight fungus. Tomato plant and fruit infected by the blight fungus, Phytophthora infestans. The fungus has killed the leaves and appears as brown patches on the stems of the plant. The tomato fruit is also infected with brown patches, and most of the fruit is rotting. This fungus is better known as potato blight and was responsible for the 1845 Irish potato famine.
