Caption: Hypericum rust. Rust spots on the leaves of a Hypericum sp. plant caused by the parasitic fungus Melampsora hypericorum. The rust-coloured areas are formed by the fungal spores (reproductive cells) rupturing the epidermal layers of the leaf. This reduces the plant's ability to photosynthesize and can severely stunt growth.
