Caption: Gall on the leaf of a beech tree (Fagus sp.). Formation of galls is triggered by the sap-sucking larvae of the beech gall midge Hartigola annulipes. The leaf is damaged by the sucking action and a gall, 3-5mm in length, forms. The gall encloses the larva where the midge can continue to develop unharmed.
