Caption: Yellow rust fungus. Wheat plants (Triticum sp.) showing signs of infection by yellow rust fungus (Puccinia striiformis). Yellow rust can cause severe damage to cereal crops, and spreads rapidly once one plant is infected. It can be controlled by fungicides at some stages of its life cycle, and resistant varieties of wheat can be bred and planted to prevent its spread.
