Caption: Glaucocystis alga. Light micrograph of a colourless Glaucocystis sp. , a chlorophyta alga which contains symbiotic Skuljapelta nuda, a type of blue-green algae or cyanobacteria. The two species have become so adapted to its partner that neither can survive without the presence of the other. The Glaucocystis sp. alga provides shelter whilst S. nuda provides food to its host through photosynthesis. Magnification: x125 at 35mm size.
