Caption: Computer display a Z-zero particle decaying into a b quark and a b antiquark in the ALEPH detector at CERN, the European centre for particle physics at Geneva. ALEPH is one of 4 giant particle detectors at the LEP electron-positron collider. The display shows the cylindrical central detector in red, blue and yellow (seen end-on at left), with other parts of the detector at right. The dotted lines represent the tracks of particles, created in two jets from the decay of the b quark and antiquark. The Z particle and the quark and antiquark live too briefly to be seen themselves; they are inferred from the other particles.
