Caption: Nebula NGC 6357 and Pismis 24 open star cluster. This open star cluster and nebula are the location of some of the largest stars ever discovered. They are located some 8000 light years from Earth in the constellation of Scorpius. The nebula, which is over 100 light years across, has been shaped by the energetic radiation emitted by these massive, hot stars. Some of the newest stars are shielded by dark nebula from which they are forming, seen as dark peaks in the nebula, silhouetted against the emission nebula (orange). This image was obtained with the 1.5-metre Danish telescope at the ESO's La Silla Observatory in Chile.Restrictions:
