Caption: Alexander Abramovich Krasnovsky (1913-1993), Soviet biochemist. Krasnovsky was born in Odessa, Ukraine, and moved with his family to Moscow, Russia, in 1921. He was awarded his PhD in chemistry in 1940. He is best known for his research on photosynthesis, pioneering photochemical study of this process. He also worked on various problems in biophysics. He was a Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Sciences, and later a full member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He worked at the Institute of Biochemistry, and was also a professor at Moscow State University. Photographed in Russia in 1962.
