Caption: Nikolai Vasilevich Tsitsin (1898-1980), Soviet botanist, agronomist and geneticist. Tsitsin worked mainly on producing new hybrid forms of crops, especially wheat crossed with wheatgrass. He was elected a member of the Lenin All-Union Academy of Agricultural Sciences (VASKhNIL) in 1938, and of the USSR Academy of Sciences in 1939. From 1938 to 1948 he worked in the Soviet Ministry of Agriculture. From 1945 to his death he was director of the Academy's Central Botanical Garden. His awards include Hero of Socialist Labour (twice), and the Lenin Prize and State Prize. Photographed in Moscow, Russia, in 1970.
