Caption: Smelly feet odor is caused by bacteria of the genus Micrococcus (round) and Corynebacteria (elongated). The bacteria metabolize organic substances in the sweat and produce isovaleric acid, which has the characteristic pungent odor of smelly feet. The bacteria shown were cultured from a man's foot. Magnification of the bacteria is 7800x if the image is printed 10 cm wide.
