Caption: Green algae. Close-up of fronds of the green alga Enteromorpha intestinalis. This seaweed, a member of the Chlorophyta, is composed of tubular fronds which are irregularly inflated. It inhabits the intertidal zone where freshwater and seawater mix to form brackish water. Algae are primitive plants that have no true leaves, stems, roots, flowers or veins. However, like higher plants they photosynthesize, using the sun's energy to grow.
