Caption: Ulothrix algae. Light micrograph of living filaments of the green algae (chlorophyta) Ulothrix fimbriata. The name Ulothrix translates as "shaggy hair". Each unbranched filament is attached to a substrate by a basal cell holdfast (not seen). Reproduction occurs asexually by filament fragmentation. Differential interference contrast. Magnification: x125 at 35mm size.
