Caption: Electron-positron collision. Computer display showing the result of an electron/positron collision inside the ALEPH detector at CERN, the European particle physics lab. The collision occurred at the centre of the frame, and produced enormous energy. This energy condensed to form a Z- nought particle, which immediately decayed to form two muons (dotted yellow tracks). Each of the muons radiated a photon, which do not show in the black tracking chamber but are absorbed by the electromagnetic calorimeters (yellow histograms on inner red ring at upper right and lower left). The muons are stopped by the outer calorimeters (yellow blocks on outer red ring).
