Caption: Tycho Brahe (1546-1601). 17th Century image of the Danish astronomer observing the supernova of 1572. Brahe is considered the greatest astronomical observer of the pre-telescopic era. His two greatest achievements were the observation of this supernova in 1572 and his life's work, a catalogue of 777 star positions. This image is the title page of 'Learned: Tico Brahe his astronomicall coniectur of the new and much admired star which appered in the year 1572', published in 1632.
