Caption: 15-inch Cooke refractor. This telescope is seen housed in its dome at the Wiggleworth Observatory, Scarborough, England. The telescope was made by the company found by the British instrument maker Thomas Cooke (1807-1868). The observatory was built for the amateur astronomer James Wigglesworth (1815-1888). Artwork from 'Handbook of Descriptive and Practical Astronomy' (George Frederick Chambers, 1890 fourth edition).
