Caption: Sergei Evgenevich Severin (1901-1993), Soviet biochemist. Severin studied at Moscow State University, graduating in 1924. From 1932 to 1948 he was a professor at the Riazan Medical Institute. He became head of the Department of Animal Biochemistry at Moscow State University in 1939. After World War II, he served as director in various departments of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences. His main research areas were in the biochemistry of skeletal musculature. He was a member of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences (1948) and the USSR Academy of Sciences (1968). Photographed in Moscow, Russia, in 1970.
