Caption: Captive weather balloon. Meteorological instruments attached to the tether of a captive weather balloon (not seen). These instruments are being used for low-level research on conditions close to the Earth's surface. The data gathered is used by the Met Office, the UK's national weather monitoring and forecasting service. Photographed at the Met Research Unit (MRU) in Cardington, Bedfordshire, UK, in 1981.
