Caption: Weather buoy thermometer screen. This thermometer screen is part of a set of instruments established at sea on a weather buoy. The screen shelters instruments such as thermometers and humidity recorders from direct sunlight, wind, and rain, all of which would affect the readings. This thermometer screen is on a TWERLE (Tropical Wind Energy Conversion and Reference Level Experiment) buoy. The data gathered is used by the Met Office, the UK's national weather monitoring and forecasting service. Photographed in the UK.
