Caption: Seated black granite statue of the lioness goddess Sekhmet from the Temple of Mut at Karnak, Egypt. It dates from the reign of Amenhotep III (Amenofis, Amenophis), the ninth pharaoh of the 18th dynasty. He commissioned hundreds of Sekhmet statues. She was regarded by the Egyptians as a bringer of destruction to enemies of the sun-god Re. (1390-1352 BC). Vatican museum.
