Caption: Computer image of the first cloud-free satellite mosaic of the whole Earth showing the north Polar region. The mosaic was built up from thousands of separate images recorded by the Tiros-N series of meteorological satellites. Each Tiros image was selected to best show the characteristics of a particular region. The chosen images were compiled into a database using a graphics supercomputer & manipulated to generate the mosaic. The picture is one of the results of the GeoSphere Project, founded in 1989 by American artist Tom Van Sant in Santa Monica, California.
