Caption: Medieval map showing Noah's ark on Mount Ararat and the ancient cities of Nineveh (or Ninever) and Babylon. The biblical story of the Deluge tells that Noah's Ark came to rest on Mount Ararat. Accounts of a catastrophic flood of divine origin are common in the mythologies and religions of the world. Babylon, located on the Euphrates river, was one of the most important cities of the ancient world and was capital of the Babylonian empire of the 2nd and 1st millennia BC. Nineveh, on the Tigris river, was the capital of the Assyrian Empire at its height (around 705-612 BC). Both cities were located in what is now modern-day Iraq. From Leonardo Dati's map of 1422.
