Caption: Egypt and Sinai from Space. Space shuttle view of Egypt and the Sinai peninsula, facing west. In the lower left is the Red Sea, which forks into the Gulf of Suez and the Gulf of Aqaba at its northern end. Sinai lies between the two gulfs. The dark band running across centre frame is the River Nile, which spreads out into the Nile Delta as it nears the Mediterranean. Cairo is located on the Nile just south of the Delta, but is not clearly visible here. The Suez Canal can be seen running between the Mediterranean and the western fork of the Red Sea. Photographed from Space Shuttle Endeavour during mission STS-69, which flew on 7- 18 September 1995.
