Caption: Mexico-Guatemala border. Infrared satellite image of a part of the Mexico-Guatemala border. North is at top. At upper right, the border is marked by straight lines formed by the contrast between the cultivated land (light blue) of Mexico, and the forests (red) of Guatemala. The Guatemalan forests extend southwards to the Usumacinta river, which flows from lower right to upper left. This river border separates Guatemala from the forests (lower frame) of Chiapas State, Mexico. In its later stages (dark blue, upper left) the Usumacinta river meanders through the cities and fields of southern Mexico. Photographed on 20 May 1988.
