Caption: Schleswig-Holstein. True-colour satellite image of Schleswig-Holstein, (highlighted), one of Germany's 16 states (Lander). North is at top. The state occupies the southern half of the Jutland Peninsula. Urban areas such as Kiel (lower right) appear grey. Forests are dark green, grazing lands are light green and crops are mostly yellow. Bare ground appears pale yellow, pale brown, or almost white. The colours of the North (left) & Baltic (right) seas depend upon water depth, currents and river discharges. Image taken by the American Landsat-5 satellite. The smallest visible features are about 30 metres across.
