Caption: Western Indonesia and Malaysia, satellite image. North is at top. Land is green, and the sea is blue, with shallower areas light blue. Sumatra, the large land mass at centre, is the largest island within Indonesia. Also seen is peninsular Malaysia (upper centre), and the Malaysian (upper) and Indonesian (lower) parts of the island of Borneo (right). The Indonesian island of Java is at bottom right. This image is from the Blue Marble project, and mostly uses data from NASA's MODIS sensors on the Terra and Aqua satellites. Blue Marble, launched in 2002, combines monthly observations from satellites to produce detailed true-colour images of the Earth's surface.
