Caption: False-colour satellite image of the Shetland Islands. The colours are processed to approximate natural tones: blue and grey land areas represent sparse vegetation on granitic soils; green areas are fairly rich pasture or upland moors. Located off the north coast of Scotland, the Shetland's comprise over 100 islands with 19 inhabited. The largest island is Shetland (lower centre), roughly T-shaped, with the administrative town of Lerwick. Shetland also contains Europe's largest oil port of Sullom Voe. The island of Yell is above centre right, and north of it, Unst island. North of Unst (60'.51N) is the tiny elongated island of Muckle Flugga, the most northerly of the British Isles.
